[Manila Current events] Carlos Euro (24), a 24-year-old Filipino who won two gold medals in gymnastics at the Paris Olympics, has recently returned to the country and is warmly welcomed as the “most successful Olympian of all time.” According to local media, the reward will be more than 70 million pesos (about 180 million yen). Housing and cars were also given as gifts.

Euro, who became the first Filipino to win a gold medal in gymnastics after training at Teikyo University in Japan and the powerful club Tokusukai, met with President Marcos at Maracanian Palace in Manila with two bronze boxing women. Marcos announced that he would add another 20 million pesos to the total of 20 million pesos given to the euro by the government for two gold pieces.
The “special bonus” storm continues. The House of Representatives presented 14 million pesos, 32 million pesos worth of housing in Manila’s metropolitan area, sports utility vehicles (SUVs) from major automakers, and free tickets for sushi, ramen and buffet dishes.
The mayor of the local city of Manila also announced that he would give two million pesos. August 4th, the second gold medal winner, was declared “Carlos Euro Day.”
