Although processing tomato harvesters have been used overseas, they have not been put to practical use in Japan.
One of the reasons for this is that Japan’s hoba is smaller than overseas, so overseas tomato harvesters are too big for Japan’s hoba.
However, unlike tomatoes for fruits and vegetables, processed tomatoes are originally suitable for machine harvesting because they are “hard and hard to crumble.” Therefore, the development of tomato harvesters suitable for the Japanese field has been promoted.
In addition, in cooperation with Minosato Transport Warehouse Co., Ltd., which is responsible for transporting processed tomatoes, we are conducting a “harvest consignment effort” to dispatch workers for harvest work with KTH.
By reducing the burden of arranging transportation personnel, farmers are creating an environment where they can concentrate on growing tomatoes.
It can be said that the processing tomatoes were suitable for machine harvesting, so it was a labor saving that was realized. However, machine harvesting of processed tomatoes has been realized because they are hard-fruit, and it is unfortunately difficult to mechanize the harvest with tomatoes for fruits and vegetables that are soft-fruit.
