The Indus River starts from the glaciated Tibetan Plateau and flows northwest through the Kashmir region, turning sharply to the left at Nanga Parbat. Glacier water flows into the Indus River along the way, gradually turning south around here, passing through Punjab in the plains, south into Sindh in the dry area, and then into the Arabian Sea.

The Indus River is an important source of water for Pakistan’s economy, especially in the granaries of Punjab and Sindh, the country’s largest agricultural production. The Indus River supports many heavy industries and is a major source of drinking water in Pakistan.

The Indus River was originally developed during British colonial rule and is connected to an extensive network of canals and irrigation systems still in use today. The Indus River Basin Irrigation System is one of the largest systems in the world and supports Pakistan’s agriculture.

Pakistan developed several dams and hydroelectric projects along the Indus River and its tributaries for the purpose of generating electricity and managing water resources. Notable projects include Talberadam and Mangradam.
