Local politicians are appealing for a response to a series of cases of kangaroos attacking humans in a famous tourist spot in New South Wales, eastern Australia.

The tourist attraction is located on a hospital site in Morissette, the state, where thousands of people visit every week to see wild kangaroos.

However, some tourists have been seriously cut by kangaroos after being kicked or scratched. Kangaroos are said to be aimed at carrots, a favorite food brought by tourists. Greg Piper, a local member of the Australian parliament, told the BBC that warnings to tourists were an urgent issue. “Kangaroos are cute, but they can hurt people,” he said.

According to Piper, the problem is getting worse as the number of tourists has soared over the past few years. “Social media has changed everything,” he said.

Referring to the kangaroo character “Roo,” which appears in Disney’s animation “Kuma no Pu-san,” posts saying it is the perfect place to shoot “Roo Selfie” have been posted on Instagram, Facebook, and various blogs, and sharing is spreading among users in no time. First, it is undesirable for wild kangaroos. Kangaroos are grass-eating animals that affect their natural habits by being fed by many tourists.

Kangaroos expect food and then demand it, raising the risk of harming humans.

“They are wild animals and people don’t know they have to be treated that way,” Piper said.

Anita Beiraszka, one of the tourists attacked by kangaroos, says she didn’t know the possibility of danger like many other tourists.

“I didn’t know I shouldn’t feed them,” Villaszka told the BBC. “We thought it would be all right because everyone does it.”

“One of the big kangaroos attacked me and everyone got scared. The parents ran away with their children.”

Bilaszka also ran away, but his leg was badly injured.

Photos of people injured in recent months provided by Piper show that kangaroos can clearly become violent.
