encounter with a bear
Now, what does it mean to “encounter” a bear in the mountains? Akino Inagaki, a special assistant professor at the Institute for Global Innovation at Tokyo National University of Agriculture and Technology, says he sees “unexpected access to bears within about 50 meters” as an encounter. In light of this standard, I would like to first write about my experience of encountering (the author).

Seven years ago, at the end of August, a total of eight of my colleagues took the last train on the JR Oume Line and stood at JR Okutama Station. He planned to run up the late-night trail from Okutama Station to Saw Mountain and run the latter half of the Hasetune route from Mt. Otake to Midake Shrine to Kinpiraone to Gokaichi Kaikan through “preparatory exercises.” He was running up the ridge road from Saw Mountain to Mt. Otake, approximately 1150 meters above sea level, with several headlights on his head and chest. The next moment I thought, “Do you want me to smell a beast in my nose leading the way?” there was a loud rustle from the yab on the right hand of the trail, and a low groan suddenly rang out in the darkness. The groan continued, warning me not to come any closer, and I immediately told the following members that I was a bear, stopped my action, hit the stock, and showed my presence with all my voice, and I could feel a large object rustling away in the bush, and it was all over.

It was a fast-moving Trelan, and he must have packed it without knowing the distance from the bear. Furthermore, it seems to me that it was an unpredictable darkness at this time, and that we had approached each other rapidly from the leeward, that the timing to notice each other had been delayed. There were many of them, and the lights were turned on and made a noise, so that the wild animal, which seemed to be a bear, seemed to have been lucky enough to leave. If there were only two people or two people, it might have been undeniable that they might have been attacked by an excited bear.
