Flood hazard maps issued by local governments are effective in identifying flood risks by place of residence. You can search by “City Name (or Prefectural Name) Water Damage Hazard Map”. There are types of flood hazard maps: ① flood, ② inland water, and ③ storm surge in coastal areas.
①flood hazard map
This is a hazard map corresponding to river flooding. The target river is listed, so let’s check which river is the target river. It is only for large rivers, and small and medium-sized rivers and waterways are not covered, so it seems that maintenance will proceed in the future.
②INNER WATER HAZARD MAP
Floods that gather and flood water from residential areas, not river floods, are called inland flooding, and are targeted at this hazard map. Only river flood hazard maps are built, and some local governments do not have hazard maps for inland water flooding.
③storm surge hazard map
This is a hazard map for storm surges, which are flood damage caused by rising sea levels during typhoons and other events. In coastal areas facing the bay, the depth of flooding is expected to be 5 to 10 meters even if the storm surges, so be careful along the coast. It is not created in inland municipalities away from the sea.
