Snakes: Monkeys instinctively fear
I heard directly from a person in charge of raising monkeys in the Nikko Monkey Corps, and it is said that the thing that monkeys fear the most is snakes. Even monkeys who have never seen snakes are afraid of snake toys, and they panic and run away just by showing them about 20 meters away. Monkeys’ strength is several times higher than that of humans, and when attacked by three adult monkeys, there is no shortage of humans, and in the event of such an accident, they always carry toy snakes with them when they enter a monkey cage. The experiment in this paper concluded that monkeys instinctively feel threatened by snakes, so chasing away monkeys with snakes is a sure way to do so. By the way, other primates such as chimpanzees and gorillas seem to be afraid of snakes, and humans are no exception and recognize snakes as a threat as part of brain function.
PROPOSAL OF MONKEEPING METHOD USING TOY SNAKE
Toy snakes are sold at 100 yen and can be purchased at a low price. This snake doesn’t move, so making sure the monkey doesn’t recognize it as fake is the main part of the monkey protection method using this toy snake. First, I will buy dozens of snake toys for 100 yen. If you don’t sell it, it might be better to sell snakes that are closer to the real one on Amazon. The snake toys are placed in a natural shape at intervals of 10 to 20 meters, and the area you want to protect is ready to be surrounded. I think it’s better to put it in the shade and make it look like a real snake lurking. After that, you can change the position slightly for a week and make it look like a snake has moved, so that you can’t see through the fact that it’s fake. This method is recommended because it is inexpensive and easy to do just by installing snakes (I have never tried this method, but I have heard about the countermeasures farmers are taking in a field survey on the development of a monkey repellent pepper bullet).
