問題のシーンは4回のドジャースの攻撃で起こった。一塁にランナーを置きバッターボックスの大谷はカーブを捕らえ、ライトフェンス直撃の二塁打を放った。一塁走者は三塁を回り本塁へと突入する。大谷は楽々二塁ベースへ。外野手が返球したボールをリンドーアがセカンドベース後方で中継する。そして彼がホームに投げたボールがこともあろうにベースに立っていた大谷の頭上スレスレを通ったのだ。大谷は前を向いていたので後ろでの様子は見えていないが何か勘が働いたのだろうか。少し身をかがめ頭に当たらずに済んだ。ヘルメットを被っているので後頭部に当たっても大事には至らない。しかし間違って大谷が後ろを振り向き、顔面にボールが当たっていたらと思うとゾッとする。大谷とのMVP論争で必ずでてくる彼の卓越した守備力。できれば少しだけ横に避けてホームに返球してほしかった。
